Announcements and Other Tidbits:
Expo Announcement/Update.
Circle the dates of Sept. 19 & 20 on your calendar. The Expo will be all day the 19th and 1/2 day on the 20th. The event is being designed to insure the future of hunting, fishing and fostering a love of the outdoors. This event being held at Waterworks Park and our Club House grounds and building, is sponsored by the Des Moines Chapter and destined to be the largest, and possibly, the most important undertaking in our chapter’s history. This 11/2 day event will include archery shooting, tree stand safety, demonstrations on various fishing/casting methods (including fly casting) Kids Outdoor Photo Contest, Hunter Safety, Trail (shoot, don’t shoot), water/boat safety, canoeing instruction, black powder demonstrations and much more. The various events will be set up as “villages” with shuttles to move people between the villages.
With a lot of time and effort by Joe Gavin and Steve Roe, we have obtained assurances of a temporary variance to the ordinance prohibiting discharging firearms within city limits.
As with any event of this magnitude, a large number of volunteers will be needed, to prepare the area beforehand, During the Expo for various tasks, and After the event for clean up. Your help is needed and will be very much appreciated. To volunteer, contact Steve Roe or Joe Gavin.
Thanks to the following volunteers for helping with the preparation of the archery range, by building frames and setting up the rest of targets: Joe Gavin, Matt Harkin, Jim Couch, Lee Reinholt, Floyd Hertsgaard, Bob Jackson and Wimpy Stifel.
Thanks to the following for helping with cleaning up the club house and grounds before the corn feed: Jack Carter, Jim Durbala, Rick Cerwick, George Slagle, Steve Roe, Roger Schoonover, Dennis Zeliadt (who also came Friday and power washed the patio), Sonny Satre, Chuck Garland, Dave McCartney, Roger Lively, Wimpy Stifel, Bud Lemke, Casey McCaffrey, Jan Corderman, Al McDonell, Greg Fay, and Bruce Hubbard (who also trimmed the bushes and with ingenuity and elbow grease cleaned our entrance sign). Also a special thanks to Karry Petterson for donating the butter for the corn feed.
Thanks to the following River Run/Garbage Grab volunteers: Sonny Satre, Del Lohr, Bob Dowson, Denny Reynolds, George Pierce, Rich Galloway, Jim Couch, Joe Gavin, Dennis Zeliadt, Fred Noon, Dave McKinney and Steve Roe.
